Research interests

The subject of my research is the study of biomolecule surface interactions and transformations. The topic is inherently multidisciplinary, merging physics, chemistry and biology.

I study the physics and chemistry of the formation of the so called “protein corona” on nanoparticles after they enter into contact with biological fluids (eg. plasma, serum, etc). Another main topic of my research is the study of the mechanisms at the base of molecular recognition of the growth factors belonging to the VEGF family.

Currently, my efforts are aimed to merge/integrate these subjects by developing an in-vitro in-vivo strategy to characterize the interaction of nanoparticle protein complexes with lipid membranes, extracellular matrix and cellular receptors in order make better nano drugs!
